The new MnDOT Welcome Center will be a gateway rest area and information center for Interstate 94 travelers and commuters arriving to Minnesota from the east across the St. Croix River Valley. Extended roof planes, warm wood, weathered steel, light cubes, and a dynamic arced form that extends into the landscape create a welcoming and safe area to break from the monotony of highway travel. Picnic pavilions, play areas for children, and pet exercise areas encourage travelers to slow down and experience restored regional habitats. The new facility will tie into an existing bicycle path joining together multiple modes of transportation.
