GREAT RIVER PASSAGE ENVIRONMENTAL LEARNING CENTER/NATIONAL PARK SERVICE HEADQUARTERS

Status: In progress
Location: St. Paul, MN

The proposed Great River Passage Environmental Learning Center/National Park Service Headquarters is sited along the Mississippi River at a location with ecological and historic significance, suitability for year-round recreation and education, and a connection to larger trail systems and surrounding communities. VJAA worked with the City of St. Paul’s Great River Passage Initiative to conduct a technical study evaluating a partnership between The City Of St. Paul, the National Park service and other river related partners to create the river focused center. The study considered a complex of three buildings, waterfront access, site development, outdoor classrooms and educational programming opportunities.  The larger site is programmed with integrated trails, outdoor classrooms, picnic areas, an amphitheater, docks, boat access and support, and rain gardens.
